In 1956, a cultural project was born at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of the Republic in Uruguay that would become a unique phenomenon worldwide: the Architecture Trip. Inspired by the Faculty’s Grand Prize, which was based on the French School of Fine Arts’ Grand Prix, which sent contest winners on study trips to Europe, the idea expanded in the 1940s to include all graduate students. These early group trips reflected the Faculty of mid-century Uruguay, which was still not massified and had a student body of barely a dozen students.
Today, the Architecture Trip sends over 200 students on a transformative global journey after months of rigorous academic preparation. During the trip, we participate in guided tours of significant architectural works and visit renowned professional offices, exploring diverse cultures, histories, and civilizations. The Viaje de Arquitectura offers a unique and inspiring opportunity for personal and academic growth.
