Academic trip around the world visit North America, Asia, Middle East and Europe, 140 cities in 35 countries for 250 days (March/December 2012) financed by raffles. Travelled through architectural icons, museums, universities, and interviews with architects.
In 1956, a cultural project was born at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of the Republic in Uruguay that would become a unique phenomenon worldwide: the Architecture Trip.
Inspired by the Faculty’s Grand Prize, which was based on the French School of Fine Arts’ Grand Prix, which sent contest winners on study trips to Europe, the idea expanded in the 1940s to include all graduate students. These early group trips reflected the Faculty of mid-century Uruguay, which was still not massified and had a student body of barely a dozen students. Today, the Architecture Trip sends over 200 students on a transformative global journey after months of rigorous academic preparation.
